Clinic Itinerary:

Introduction to Horsemanship Tools and Techniques using simulations with each other and your horse on the ground.

  • 9:00a.m. – Noon
    Simulations using your horsemanship halter, lead line, horsemanship stick and string. Learn how to "feel" the timing and delivery of your cues to communicate with your horse. These basic starting exercises are to assist you with safety, respect, and control of your horse as he gains confidence in you as a leader.

    Exercises will include: Lateral movement of your horse's body parts from the ground – having your horse yield to your body language.

    • Moving your horse's front end;
    • Disengaging your horse's hindquarters;
    • Sending and circling your horse to the right and left;
    • Backing your horse;
    • Leading up – assisting your horse listening to you while moving forward and not crowding you while you lead – very useful for control when taking horses to new locations;
    • Lateral flexion – creating softness and control of your horse's head and neck – key to vertical flexion.
  • Lunch – Noon – 1:00p.m.
    We will watch some inspirational and informative DVD's on the exercises you just experienced. Your horses can be tied at your trailer and take a lunch break as well. Please bring your hay and hay bags to feed your horses at lunch time.
  • 1:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.
    Playground Time!!!! We will go out on the playground and utilize the exercises you learned before lunch.

    Exercises will include:
    • Lateral flexion from the ground;
    • Lateral flexion from a stand still;
    • Lateral flexion at the walk;
    • Disengaging the hindquarters from the ground;
    • Disengaging the hindquarter from a stand still;
    • Creating impulsion using three phases;
    • One rein stop at the walk;
    • One rein stop at the trot;
    • Seat positions 1, 2, and 3 – How to bring life up in your horse for forward motion and how to bring your life down to slow down and stop your horse from your seat and not the reins;
    • Steps to backing your horse softly using one rein and your seat.
  • Lunch – 1:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. – Discussion on horse's inherent behavior, psychology, and their variations of personality.
  • 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m
    Ground skills trip to various natural obstacles to include a ravine, large hill, and downed trees.  These exercises will expand on the exercises you learned at the playground.  We will take our time and work with the horse that shows up.  This is the beginning of developing a solid trail horse as your horse experiences what he will find out on the trail.  A grand opportunity for you to expand your leadership role with your horse out in a beautiful natural setting.
